The Blessings of the Fear of the Lord
2 Timothy 1:7 – God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
There are biblical principles to walking in the blessings of God. We desire success, health, long life, wisdom, blessings of the Lord that makes us rich and add no sorrow. How do we access the blessings of the Lord? We can release blessings in our lives simply through the disposition we have towards God: The way we relate to Him and the way we respond to Him.
There are two types of fear seen in scripture: The spirit of fear and The Fear of the Lord. We are commanded to fear God and not our situations, the world or even the enemy. Many people struggle with the spirit of fear which makes them fear the future, disasters, trouble, sickness, death, the future and the depletion of our finances. Fear cripples you! It is like a magnet- When we walk in fear, we actually draw to us what we fear. Job 3:35. But, there is another kind of fear which we are commanded to have.
This fear is rooted in belief and it brings us to a conscious recognition of the greatness and sovereignty of God. Matthew 10:28 – And do not fear those who can kill the body but cannot kill the soul, but rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. When we fear God, we draw God to us. The fear of the Lord means to be in awe, reverence and to respect The Lord and make pleasing Him our priority.
There are 5 blessings that are released when we fear God:
- Blessings over our children
- In our finances
- In the disposition of our hearts
- In our faith
It is when we hate evil, pride arrogance, behaviours and attitudes and a perverse mouth that the fear of God is generated in our lives, causing us not to fear man, not to form destructive relationships, not to worship any other gods, other than the true and living God and not to be contentious in our speech.
This healthy fear also keeps us away from a presumptuous life and the love of money. The fear of The Lord is the beginning of wisdom. God intends for his people to live in holy fear, not fear that causes intimidation and stress, rather Fear that will draw God closer to us.
